The venerable Hôtel des Iles was built in 1948 by Antoine Marchisio (designer of the legendary Mamounia in Marrakesh) and combines the mauresque and retro styles of the périod with all modern amenities. The hotel enjoys a privileged location beside the entrance to the old walled city and faces directly onto the bay with its wide sand beaches and the Island of Mogador in the distance. Thanks to the pleasing decor of its public spaces and private guest quarters, and owing to the oustanding personalized service of its seasoned staff, the hotel offers itself as a haven of comfort and tranquility.
Rooms:
The original wing of the hotel is comprised of 23 guest rooms located on 2 floors. All rooms were redecorated in 2002 and face either the bay and ocean or the hotel's private swimming pool surrounded by greenery. All bathrooms are equipped with bathtubs and with showersheads. TV sets offer 8 international channels. One suite named after the legendary Orson Welles. An additional 10 guest rooms in the hotel's annex.
In addition to the guest quarters of the main building, there are also 40 motel-style "bungalows" which face onto lawns, trees and the hotel's swimming pool. Each unit has its own sun deck facing the pool and parking space for one's vehicle near one's front door.
Restaurants:
- A large and modern multi-use dining room facing the ocean and serving up to 300 persons for meals (or up to 500 persons for cocktails) functioning also as a large conference room for up to 300 persons or as a dining facility with an orchestra capable of seating 200 guests.
- An elegant restaurant specializing in seafood and facing the ocean (seating 100).
- Traditional Moroccan restaurant "Khaima"(seating up to 80 persons).
Bars:
- Intiate "Orson Welles" bar, once a refuge for the legendary screen artist who filmed most of his haunting "Othello" (Palme d'or at Cannes in 1952) in Essaouira and was a guest at the hotel.
- American-style "Amarg" Bar offering TV and music in an atmosphere of sophistication.
